I used to be a seriously stressed out sugar dealer and my health was totally out of whack. Yes, you heard me correctly, a sugar dealer…and an addict actually. And you know what they say, if you're a dealer you really shouldn’t get messed up in your own drugs. But I did. I owned three large candy and ice cream shops in the mountains of Colorado, serving thousands of pounds of sugar to the masses for ten years and have never been more stressed out in my life. Sugar and stress ruled my world.
While I was very proud of how hard I worked and of the business I created, I slowly realized that being stressed out all the time was not how I wanted to live. I used to wear my anxiety ridden, insomnia filled life like a badge of honor. I thought this is just how life is. We opened our third restaurant mere weeks after the economic disaster of 2008 and found ourselves in hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. That'll cause a little anxiety! It took me years to extract myself from the only life I knew. But once I recognized what was happening to my body and mental health as a result of all the stress I knew something had to change.
So at age 37 I did a total “press the reset button”, packed up my Colorado life and moved back East with no job, no money and no direction whatsoever. But I did have my friends and family; and with their help I repaired my broken little life to build version 3.0 (version 2.0 was my original move to Colorado at age 27….another story). I’ve spent the last six years rebooting myself, learning everything I can to be healthier, happier and more balanced, not in the absence of stress, but right alongside it. I want to share what I’ve learned, in a fun engaging format, to help others take control of their health even when life feels overwhelming.
PS- That was my main man Dwayne in the picture. I lost him summer of '17 and miss him every day. However, I did get a new Pug named Wilbur because I simply can't be "pugless". I highly recommend just looking at his face for general stress reduction...it works every time. You're welcome.
I really regret eating healthy today....said no-one....EVER!
